BOS Stace ABSTRACT Chronic rejection evidenced as bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) is the most common cause of allograft dysfunction alter lung transplantation (LTX). Currently, BOS is diagnosed indirectly based by pulmonary function tests. We investigated the potential of hyperpolarized helium-3 (H’He) MRI in assessing BOS in 13 LTX patients by correlating the percent H’He ventilation of the transplanted lung with the clinical BOS stage The mean percent H’He MRI ventilation was 98% in patients with BOS stage 0, 95% in potential BOS, 87% in BOS stage 1 and 67% in BOS stage 3. H’He MR imaging has potential for diagnosing BOS.
